Materials: Squirt bottles, t-shirts, rubber bands, yellow onion peels (brownish – orange), beet juice (bright pink), purple cabbage (blue)
Instructions:
- Keep scraps of each vegetable and add to separate pots of boiling water to create the tie dye liquids. Let the liquids boil until the color is dark, then remove from heat.
- When the liquid has cooled, strain and fill into squirt bottles. Discard scraps or compost them.
- Twist or fold shirt into different shapes, using rubber bands to tie off as you go along. It’s easy to find fun design patterns!
- After the t-shirt is folded and banded, squirt the colors on individual sections of the shirt, beginning with the lightest colors.
- When shirts are done, lay them in a sunny spot still wrapped up.
- Allow shirts to dry in the sun before unwrapping! Hand wash in cold water, then put it in a traditional dry to set the color.
