Ice-cold watermelons, grass-fed beef on the grill, and all the local veggies you can eat – That’s a delicious way to enjoy Memorial Day weekend!  Having the best Backyard BBQ on the block is easy to do when you start with farm fresh ingredients. Free range meats are a Memorial Day must-have and the Dallas Farmers Market has the best selection of sustainably raised proteins in town.
There are dozens of options but don’t miss some of our favorites –
  • JuHa Ranch – Grassfed Beef Burgers
  • Gabriel Ranch – Angus Ribeye Steak
  • 413 Farms – Jalapeno Cheese Bratwurst
  • Hendrix Family Farm – Chicken Breasts
  • Dresden Specialty Meats – Bison Burgers
We’re not all “seasoned” grill masters yet, but there are some simple tips to improve your Backyard BBQ game no matter your experience level –
Preheat properly: Make sure your grill is properly preheated before you start cooking, and brush the grates with oil. This ensures even cooking and prevents food from sticking to the grates.
Marinate and season: Marinating meat or vegetables before grilling can enhance flavor and tenderness. Don’t forget to season your food with salt, pepper, and other spices before grilling. There are dozens of spice blends and marinades to choose from in The Shed!
Invest in a meat thermometer: To ensure your meat is cooked to the desired level of doneness, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Keeping a meat thermometer on hand helps ensure you cook meat to a safe internal temperature without overdoing it.
Let it rest: Allow grilled meat to rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute, resulting in juicier and more flavorful meat. A good rule of thumb is to let meat rest for about 5 minutes per 1 inch of meat. For example, steaks rest for 5 – 10 minutes and larger pieces like roast may need 15 to 20 minutes.
These tips are sure to get you started on the right foot, but you can check out our Memorial Day Grilling Demo this Saturday for a firsthand chance to ask all your grilling questions!
