This International Women’s Day, the Dallas Farmers Market proudly honors the farming and ranching women who are so vital to our local agriculture. Texas leads the nation with more than 152,000 women farmers and ranchers, accounting for nearly 39% of all producers in the state. In fact, almost 40% of all women agricultural producers in the U.S. are based in Texas, managing nearly 43 million acres of farmland.

The Shed features many outstanding women in agriculture, including:

Stop by the Information Booth this weekend to pick up a bingo sheet highlighting these fantastic female farmers and their products. While you’re there, be sure to meet Farmers Market Assistant Director Kate Crenwelge, who grew up on a farm and was actively involved in 4-H, an important program where many women begin their careers in agriculture. After earning a degree in Agribusiness from Texas A&M University, she now passionately supports the DFM farmers, ranchers, and food producers, continuing her lifelong commitment to the agricultural community.

Inspired to get your own hands dirty? Janiece at Kelley Produce has a wide selection of plant starts, including tomatoes, broccoli, and greens, and make a note to stop by Verona at Pepperona Peppers, as she will have starts available in the next few weeks. Spring growing season is on its way!

And speaking of spring fun, we want to be tiptoeing through the tulips, not dodging the raindrops, so we moved the magical Hemingway Hill Farm Tulip Farm Tour/Pick-Your-Own experience to Saturday, March 14. Stroll through vibrant fields, snap dreamy photos, and handpick your own bouquet to take home. Each ticket includes round-trip transportation from the Dallas Farmers Market, six tulips for your bouquet, farm-harvested honey, a seed packet from owner and farmer, Jennifer Loyall, and a DFM tote bag. Tours last two hours and have limited spots for 15 guests per tour, so secure your seats now! For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit here.

Don’t let the storms keep you away this weekend because The Shed has you covered in more ways than one. Join us in supporting the women who grow, raise, create, and lead, and thank them for helping the Dallas Farmers Market and our great state succeed.
