This weekend, the DFM is celebrating all things March 2, 1836, the day Texas declared independence from Mexico and began its history as the Republic of Texas. Independent until 1845, when it joined the United States as the 28th state, Texas remains the only state to have been its own nation. That legacy fuels its unmistakable pride and resilience, along with eyerolls from other, ahem, not-as-cool states. Vast enough to fit California, New York, and Florida within its borders, Texas is equally expansive in tradition and flavor thanks to a rich mixture of Texan and Mexican heritage. Here at the Dallas Farmers Market, we celebrate that beautiful blend every day, where history and community come together to create the diverse state we proudly call home.
