After warm weather crops are harvested, farmers are hard at work planting fields with winter crops like root vegetables, yummy leafy greans, and brassicas (aka mustard family crops like broccoli)! But what is it about this season that can keep a farmer up at night?🌙 Transition season is quite unpredictable. Between the last harvest of tomatoes and first crop of carrots can be an eeriely empty veggie haul. But don’t let that scare you! While winter crops take a few weeks to get nice and full, our farmers have dressed up their veggies in creative (and delicious) ways to preserve them on the shelf. You’ll find spicy arugula in fresh pesto from Braga Farms, cabbages bubbling into kimchi at Williams Garden, and zesty cruchy dill pickles from State 28 Farm — and that’s just the start of the goodies they’ve made! No matter the season, it’s always a great day to enjoy local agriculture. Of course, you can’t miss out on all the tasty and Halloweeny treats our artisans are baking up for this weekend. Don’t forget to take some home for your Mummy!Â
