Looking for chemical-free, naturally grown produce? State 28 Farms is bringing their best to the Dallas Farmers Market starting this SATURDAY & SUNDAY! While use of the term “organic” is restricted to only USDA-certified farms, State 28 Farms goes beyond-organic in the stewardship of their farm. Compost for soil amendments, tarps for weed control, and natural methods of pest control are all ways that State 28 Farms creates a healthy farm ecosystem:

“At State 28 Farm, we practice sustainable agriculture. We only use organic & natural methods for our pest control. This means starting with the soil first. We work hard to maintain a healthy & vibrant soil ecology and we work on reducing habitats for pests. When we do find pests that could damage our crops we use other beneficial insects to control issues. Through the use of beneficial insect release on the farm, such as lady bugs and green lace wings, we can suppress issues that could take out our crops. Another natural method that we utilize is the planting of beneficial flowers and herbs to ward off pests. When we create an environment that wards off the bad pests, but keeps the good guys around we’ve done our job. We also use insect netting, mulch and a lot of companion planting on the farm.

Generally, the more plant-rich an area is, the more likely natural control will work.” – Farmer Melisa
