Cool and refreshing smoothies are a fun summer treat for farmers market lovers of all ages. Freezing sweet summer fruit and mixing it with nutrient-packed veggies is a great way to add healthy and delicious flavor to your meal-prep rotation. Even the pickiest Little Farmers will love smoothies when you give them fun names like Dinosaur Green or Poppin’ Pink! Freezing local produce for smoothies is all about timing… Luckily, NOW is the time to stock and store delicious Texas fruit for farm-fresh smoothies. Here’s our list of Texas fruit to pick and freeze this weekend:
  1. Peaches
  2. Blueberries
  3. Blackberries
  4. Watermelon
  5. Cantaloupe
Each of these fruits makes a great start to delicious smoothies! The fun part comes with customizing the flavor with additional produce like:
  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Zucchini
  • Cucumbers
  • Microgreens
Depending on your preference for sweetness, you probably wouldn’t add all of these vegetables at once. However, you can easily add one or two vegetables to a fresh smoothie and still have a sweet, smooth, summer treat that’s fresh and delicious! Don’t forget you can also get your smoothies from JuiceBabe at The Market. They are always blending up some goodness to fuel the day!
Quick tip:
Skip the ice and use frozen produce for a smooth consistency. Icy smoothies usually lack flavor and have a less-than-perfect texture. A tastier way to build the perfect smoothie starts with frozen produce blended with fruit juice of your choice (apple and pineapple are great options!) or with yogurt for a creamier, more filling option.
