Q: How did you become a rancher? How old were you?
A: Cattle ranching has always been a part of my family. I am a 3rd generation Texas cattle rancher. Today we have 4 generations involved in our operation.

Q: Is ranching your first career? If not, what did you do before?
A: Cattle ranching and beef production is my passion but my career is in the Oil & Gas Service Industry.

Q: What do you want people to understand about ranching?

A: Ranching isn’t easy, but it is the best way of life. Caring for the land and the livestock is very rewarding to the soul.

Q: How has ranching changed since you first started?
A: So much has changed with technology, informations, DNA testing, artificial insemination and more but many parts of cattle ranching are still the same…and that’s a good thing.

Q: Do you find community and support from the vendors and shoppers at the Dallas Farmers Market?
A: Yes! The relationships we have developed with customers and other vendors is the best part of out market experience

Q: What is our hope for the future of ranching in Texas and the US?
A: I hope that there is continued growth in the rancher to consumer market. This not only rewards ranchers with additional needed profts but also allows a higher quality beef product to go to the consumer that takes the time to search out local true ranchers.

Q: What is your advice for someone who hopes to start a ranch in North Texas?
A: That’s a big question. Decide what you want to accomplish. Talk to a variety of people that have experience. Determine your plan. Expect it to be harder than you expect but do it and enjoy.

Q: Why is it important to support local agriculture?

A: Lots of reasons. Better and healthier food to the community. Helps support the local farmer and rancher who operate on small profits. It’s good economically for the local community….keep the money at home. It helps your community.
