Meet one of our wonderful neighbors at Taylor Lofts, Billy!

Why did you originally decide to move to Taylor/Harvest?
I was born and raised about 30 minutes outside of Dallas in the suburbs. As a child, we often in school would be asked to draw our dream homes. While others were drawing more suburban homes with white picket fences or sprawling mansions with 50 windows, I always drew a building downtown. I’ve always had a metropolitan dream and Taylor Lofts let me do just that.

I remember years ago, I came to the Farmer’s Market for brunch and fell in love. It was so vibrant and beautiful with people and flowers everywhere but the beautiful Downtown Dallas skyline still loomed tall over the area. I also saw that there was an outline of building going up to where I parked. It was labeled as residential and I thought about how amazing it would be to live in the Farmer’s Market only steps from Downtown!

Years laters, I live in that very building I saw being built with a perfect view of Downtown Dallas from every single one of my windows. Every week, I walk out of the doors to Taylor Lofts into the bustling Farmer’s Market to the sounds of live music, the smells of fresh flowers and produce, and the tastes of mouthwatering cuisines. My friends join me in the evenings for dinner on our sprawling terrace with lights of the skyline as our backdrop. There is always a cool event happening where I can meet and hang out with my neighbors. Living here was even better than I thought it would be all those years ago.

What is your favorite store and/or product at the DFM?
Wow now THAT is not a fair question: How can I pick just one?!

  1. Ginzaro Sushi: This place is the newest restaurant and when they opened I ate their Crab Tower every day for a week straight! It’s so fresh and delectable with unbeatable service.
  2. Rex’s Seafood Market: No amount of words can do the fresh seafood and the level of familial camaraderie justice. Rex’s is a cornerstone of this community and simply has to be experienced.
  3. Simply Irresistible: So, don’t go in here with a credit or debit card. Seriously, bring the amount of cash you are willing to spend because the home décor, delightful hand crafted soaps and candles are, as the name suggests, irresistible so you will spend all your money.

How would you describe your stage of life? And how does being part of the farmers market community enhance your lifestyle?
As a millennial, work/life balance is extremely important to me. Working in tech, I have the luxury of working from home which can make it hard to separate the two at times. I love that the Farmer’s Market has a ton of places for me to work “from home” including the terrace, the conference rooms, a well-designed clubhouse, and Industrious, the newest (and coolest) co-working space in Dallas. In addition, everyone who lives and works here is so friendly! I have made a ton of friends and networking connections since moving in and never have a shortage of really great people to hang with. The Farmer’s Market has given me and endless amount of “Life” things to do to balance out all of the “Work” things I do and all I have to do is walk downstairs.

Has living at Taylor/Harvest impacted your lifestyle at all? Did you learn about local produce, small businesses, or even just enjoy having the variety of stores?
Living in Taylor has really shown me the value and impact of small and local business. It can be easy to think that massive is more convenient and better, but I am simply amazed by the amount of businesses that I had never heard of before moving here that I can’t picture living without now. I’ve started cooking far more than I ever have before in my life because the produce we find around here is better than anything you could get in a large chain store, it is like eating in 4K resolution! The vendors we get on the weekends have the best products from soap to cookies to bug repellant to cool fashions, all with great prices and high quality ingredients.

What are some regular activities or hobbies you enjoy?
I love to walk to my favorite parks or restaurants in Downtown,  Uptown, or Deep Ellen with friends. We also have a great movie theatre and Live music venue right in the South Side On Lamar area, which I can not wait to take advantage of again after the effects of this global pandemic are behind us. In the summer, you can also find me at the Harvest pool catching some sun and grilling. I also love to volunteer at my church and do a live millennial discussion panel every Sunday evening discussing faith and the Sunday Morning sermon on Facebook and YouTube.

We LOVE having such a wonderful + supportive neighbor, Billy is such a gem! Thank you for choosing to live here in the Dallas Farmers Market. See you this weekend. ❤️ #dallasfarmersmarket #mydtd
