As the official state tree of Texas, the pecan holds a special place in our hearts, as well as in many delicious holiday memories. This week, we were fortunate enough to visit our pecan farmer, Russell Helge of North Texas Pecans, and enjoy all the sights and scents of harvest. Since 1997, North Texas Pecans has been cultivating beautiful pecans on 50 acres in Comanche County, home to approximately 1,500 trees, most of which are the flavorful Pawnee variety. On a good day, Russell and his team can process more than 500 pounds of pecans!
Reap the rewards of all their hard work as North Texas Pecans offers a full range of pecans and pecan products at the Dallas Farmers Market, all produced right on the farm. You can find them in The Shed most weekends, featuring everything from unshelled to shelled, roasted and smoked, as well as pecan pies and brittles perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings, that one (probably more) challenging person on your gift list, or better yet, a treat just for you during all the holiday preparations.
