That’s how it is with tomatoes here at the Dallas Farmers Market! We anticipate them every year; they arrive, we get to enjoy them and too soon after they are gone! Which is more of a reason to enjoy these delicious beauties all summer before they are gone! Lucky for us all, we have farms with different tomatoes for us all to enjoy: Matt’s Homegrown Produce, Heddin Family Farm, Mars Hill Farm and Black Sage Farm. They each have different types, sizes if you get lucky you may find a cute heart shaped one too!
Let’s not forget that we are in prime grilling season and tomatoes are the perfect pair with pretty much any kind of grilling meat or veggie you can think of. This versatile veggie pairs perfectly with salsas, salads, garnish and even soup. Fun fact; did you know that tomatoes are technically a fruit?! While nobody would ever claim that tomatoes are sweet, botanically they are classified as a fruit. Tomatoes contain seeds which puts them in the fruit category. However, to make things more complicated, in 1893 the US supreme court ruled that they are in fact a vegetable, so now we know. Either way, we are loving this delicious veggie!
