Independence Day is the perfect time to celebrate America the Beautiful with free range and grass fed meats from our Texas Ranchers. Learn more about their commitment to the land that we love in our Q + A with Hendrix Family Farm.
Q: How did you become a rancher?
A: It was through the FFA organization that sparked our interest in raising cattle. We (Bryan & Jenni) have been around agriculture most of our lives and in the last 10 years have been building our dream of being first generation farmers and now having the next generation follow suit. It was through our children showing cattle that our herd was started.
Q: Is ranching your first career? If not, what did you do before?
A: We all have full time jobs in addition to ranching. Bryan is a Firefighter, Jenni is a Respiratory Therapist and Case works as a livestock inspector for Texas Animal Health Commission.
Q: What do you want people to understand about ranching?
A: It is a labor of love. We truly care about our livestock and the land. We also want to produce a quality product. This is the food we feed our family. Our goal is to take farming to your front door. By being proper stewards of the land and livestock, we produce affordable, nutritious and delicious beef.
Q: Do you find community and support from the vendors and shoppers at the Dallas Farmers Market?
A: We feel very supported by the Dallas Farmers Market and surrounding community. We really enjoy educating consumers on our practices and products and enjoy seeing our “regulars” and meeting new people every market!
Q: Why is it important to support local agriculture?
A: We believe you should trust the food you feed your family. Your farmer/rancher is the person who grows and cares for the food you eat. When you know your farmer, you know how your food is grown and where it comes from. Also, supporting your local farmer will strengthen your local economy and revitalize your community. Buying local cuts down on transportation and storage costs. Also, when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses – continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community.
