Gardening does more than grow plants. It grows well-being, too. From digging and planting to weeding and watering, it’s a full-body workout that builds strength and balance, while the time spent outdoors boosts vitamin D and overall immunity. Gardening also nurtures the mind by helping to reduce stress and anxiety, lift your mood, and create a lasting sense of purpose. Whether in your own backyard, raised patio bed, or at our shared community Market garden, digging in the dirt is a simple, rewarding way to elevate both body and mind.
Just in time for Earth Day celebrations and the full bloom of spring, our farmers have a wide variety of plant starts ready to take your gardening to the next level. Pepperona Peppers is stocked with a variety of peppers and rare purple tomatoes, while Kelley Produce offers everything from herbs and watermelon to squash starts and vibrant blooms. Behind the scenes, our Market garden is gearing up for the season with newly upgraded beds and thriving crops, including German Hardneck and Italian Softneck garlic planted last fall. We’re rotating out Brussels sprouts to make room for peppers and have just added Green Zebra, Speckled Roma, and Beefsteak tomatoes, along with new educational plots for visiting students. With the longtime DFM favorite Victory Gardens returning to The Shed and more plants and produce arriving each week, it’s the perfect time to dig in and get growing.
