Knowledge is key to building a sustainable future; our farmers, ranchers, and artisans bring that information straight to you every weekend. From composting workshops, companion planting demonstrations, and eco-friendly art projects — there are endless opportunities to bring sustainability into your daily routine! We’re talking Progress over Perfection. It’s easy to get discouraged when focusing on “zero-waste” lifestyles and “minimizing your footprint”. These are great goals, but we focus more on the flip side by making the most of positive opportunities! Every day, there are dozens of small choices we make that all add up to a lasting impact on the health of our planet and communities. So, when we make those “no sweat” choices like selecting paper over plastic, we’re adding momentum to a global movement to put Earth First.
Use these 3 Easy Tips to celebrate Earth Day starting with a trip to the Dallas Farmers Market:
  1. Support regenerative ranchers and eco-friendly farmers – Regenerative agriculture is the next innovation in growing food sustainability. Rather than minimizing impact, regenerative farming actually improves the environment by sequestering carbon, rehabilitating soils, encouraging biodiversity and so much more! While conventional agriculture has had many negative impacts, there are thousands of years of farming wisdom to guide the future of food through regenerative practices. Farmers and ranchers at the forefront of sustainable ag. are using nature-inspired practices that emphasize stewardship with every step.   2. Shop with Environmentally Friendly Businesses — The majority of farmers market shoppers are already on the ball with this one! It’s no surprise that many businesses generate a substantial amount of waste, but many business owners are stepping up to do things better. In 2024, vendors at the Dallas Farmers Market are making waves and reducing single-use plastics by making the switch to biodegradable and reuseable bags only! Additionally, you’ll find small businesses partnering with local farms to source ingredients when possible, accepting containers for reuse, and even giving a portion of proceeds to charitable organizations. Each purchase from these businesses amplifies their impact!
  3. Reuse what you have and keep durability in mind – Given the choice between a plastic or reusable bag – reusable is the way to go. In 2020, plastic film including bags was the second most littered item in the US. In fact, “After the 15 [most littered items in the US], the remaining items individually represent less than one percent of the total litter in America. While we have a massive problem, that is a huge opportunity to address those 15 categories, starting with our own choices!
