IT’S THE GREAT PUP-KIN, DFM!
The Dallas Farmers Market is going to the dogs Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, as we welcome pups and their people for a little Halloween fun. Bring your canine companion along for Coffee, Cops, & K9’s with Moonstone Café from 10:00 a.m. to noon both days at the front of The Shed. On Saturday, the first 50 visitors will receive a complimentary bottled coffee in Brown Sugar Cinnamon or Vanilla (made with oat milk). Sunday’s first 50 visitors can enjoy a free coffee or beverage, with pup cups available for the furry sidekicks while supplies last.
Meet adorable adoptable dogs from Hearty Paws Great Dane Rescue on Saturday and Doodle Rock Rescue on Sunday, both from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And since Halloween costumes aren’t just for humans, dress up your pup and head to the Main Stage at the back of The Shed at 1:30 p.m. on both days for our free-to-enter Doggy Costume Contest, featuring first-, second-, and third-place prizes sponsored by Lula Pup Shop. Social Dog Dallas is also hanging out Saturday from noon to 2:00 p.m. Stop by, say hi, and enjoy their pup cup bar.
Pumpkin of the Week
After all these activities, make sure to set aside time for a walk through The Shed to find a pumpkin just for your furry bestie. Consider our Pumpkin of the Week: the Jarrahdale. With its striking slate-blue-gray skin, deep ribs, and flattened shape, the Jarrahdale stands out in the pumpkin patch. This Australian heirloom typically weighs six to twelve pounds and offers sweet, dense, stringless orange flesh, perfect for roasting, soups, and pies. It’s also known for its impressive shelf life. And in keeping with this weekend’s canine theme, keep in mind that dogs can enjoy plain, cooked pumpkin, too. Just skip the tough rind, sugar, and seasonings. A small spoonful makes a simple seasonal treat they’ll love.
There’s plenty of fun for the rest of the family at the Dallas Farmers Market as well. Balloon Art by Bender will be on hand all weekend. Get creative with our Kids’ Activity from 10:00 a.m. to noon both days. Plus, don’t miss Window to the Wild from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, offering an exciting opportunity to get up close to fascinating wildlife.
Whether you’re coming for the costume contest, the pumpkins, or a little puppy love, there’s something for everyone at the DFM this weekend. Bring the whole crew and join us for two days of fall fun worth howling about!
I Got a Pumpkin
If you haven’t made your way through the pumpkin patch in The Shed, now’s the time to pick your favorites before they’re gone. From classic orange beauties and colorful heirlooms to unusual shapes and sizes, there’s still time this weekend to bring a little autumn home. And remember, more than 80% of the pumpkins in our patch are edible, making them eligible for SNAP benefits. Stop by the blue information booth at the front of The Shed to learn more about SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks, which matches up to $30 per day in SNAP purchases of eligible fresh fruits and vegetables.
With more than 20 varieties to choose from, including Cinderella, Fairytale, Jarrahdale, Cheddar, Cushaw, Mystic Pie, Pink Banana, Blue Hubbard, and Porcelain Doll, there’s plenty to discover. Make one last trip through the patch, stock up on your fall favorites, and give pumpkin season the send-off it deserves.
Paws for the Music
Live music is part of what makes the Dallas Farmers Market such a special place to gather, bringing the sounds of talented North Texas musicians to our community. This weekend, find a spot to sit, stay, and paws a bit with your four-legged best friend as you enjoy the tunes.
