The sweet scent strawberries is in the air! Strawberries have made their way to The Shed from Sanchez Farm in Poteet, TX – the Strawberry Capitol of Texas! What makes locally grown strawberries so much sweeter than store bought? Strawberries at the grocery store need to be picked and transported over thousands of miles and kept in cold storage for several days (up to two weeks at times!). If those strawberries are going to make it through the journey, they’ll need to be picked while still firm and not quite ripe. Nature doesn’t do anything quickly, so early picking sacrifices the sweetness and fragrance we all love most about strawberries! Locally grown strawberries are sweet all the way through and are melt-in-your-mouth juicy — perfect for munching while you explore the market or for saving to make the sweetest jams and baked goods. In fact, you can take home your own locally-grown strawberry jam from MaDears Jellies! Overnight, they transformed our fresh strawberries into Good Ole’ Strawberry Jam – get some while it lasts. We are sweet on these strawberries!
