Demases Farm celebrates 100-year family farming tradition! Farming is a hard life to say the least, and a lifestyle handed down generation after generation. In 1911, James Antonias Demases left his homeland for a better life in America and began farming in 1919. Grandson, Robert and son’s Chance and Christopher are 3rd and 4th generation farmers and continue to presently farm. Robert, his wife Pam, and son Chance, grow vegetables, melons and strawberries on the farm in Boyd, TX. Demases Farms will be selling their strawberries in the Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market in April.
Bonton Farms is an urban farm located in a food desert in South Dallas where the nearest grocery store is a 3-hour round-trip bus ride away. Their mission is an agricultural intervention to restore lives, create jobs and ignite hope. They have a nice variety of seasonal vegetables and peach trees, goats, bees, chickens, pigs and cows. The Market, a restaurant by day and cooking classes by night just opened by Bonton Farms in the community. Bonton Farms sells their fresh vegetables, honey, honey butter and free- range eggs at the Dallas Farmers Market every weekend.
